The gift shop has expanded. It has expanded, specifically, into the Members' Lounge, which has long been a hallway, and is now a hallway with a till.
The Logic
Emotions, as we have always maintained, are best monetised properly, and proximity is everything. A patron moved by a work should not have to walk far before being charged for the feeling. We have removed the walk.
What Is Now for Sale in the Corridor
- Prints of works you have already seen, at a markup we describe as "curatorial."
- The Certificate of Questionable Authenticity, suitable for framing the framing.
- Tote bags. We are an institution; we are not above a tote.
A Note for Members
Members retain full access to the Lounge, which is to say they may continue to stand in the hallway, now beside merchandise. This is, we feel, an upgrade. The committee disagreed, and was overruled by the committee.
